The government has announced the extension of the minimum import price on virgin multi-layer paper board till September 30, 2026, according to a notification.
The MIP was first imposed in August 2025.
"Minimum Import Price (MIP) @ INR 67,220 per MT on Cost, Insurance, and Freight )CIF) value, imposed on import of Virgin Multi-layer Paper Board (VPB)'has been extended for the period up to 30.09.2026," the directorate general of foreign trade has said in notification.
The product is used in the packaging of pharmaceuticals, FMCG products, food and beverages, electronics, high-end cosmetics, liquor, book covers, and publishing.
Below this MIP, imports would not be allowed.

The Finance Ministry on Saturday notified 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in the insurance sector under the automatic route.
While 100 per cent foreign investment will be allowed in insurance companies and intermediaries, including brokers, under the automatic route, the cap is 20 per cent for Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), said the Foreign Exchange Management (Non-debt Instruments) (Second Amendment) Rules, 2026.
The Parliament had passed the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (amendment of insurance laws) Bill, 2025, in December, 2025, paving the way for hiking the FDI cap in the insurance sector to 100 per cent under the automatic route, from 74 per cent earlier.
Subsequently, after the President's assent, the Bill became law.
Thereafter in February, 2026, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Commerce and Industry Ministry had notified 100 per cent FDI in the insurance sector.

Manpreet Singh, honorary treasurer of the National Restaurant Association of India, said that eateries are already grappling with supply challenges alongside rising costs.
"There is a huge difficulty in getting these cylinders, and black marketing is also increasing in many unregulated sectors," he said, noting that prices that were once around Rs 1,600, often dropping to nearly Rs 1,300 with discounts, have now surged to between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000 per cylinder.

Carmakers began the new fiscal on a strong note, with an estimated 4.5 lakh units of passenger vehicles sold in April in the domestic market, up 27 per cent, on the back of record sales by firms, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Kia.
The industry continued to benefit from the tailwinds of GST 2.0 carried forward from the second half of last fiscal, along with repo rate cut and income tax benefit, Maruti Suzuki India Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Partho Banerjee said.
Passenger vehicle (PV) sales in the domestic market were 3.54 lakh units in April last year.
Maruti Suzuki India posted a record domestic sales of 1,91,122 units in April compared to 1,42,053 units in the year-ago month. Its previous highest domestic sales were in December 2025 at 1,82,165 units.
"We are starting this year with a big bang. Small cars have contributed significantly to this growth," Banerjee told PTI.
The company's small cars, comprising Alto, S-Presso, Celerio and WagonR, grew 74.4 .

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India on Friday reported a record total sales of 2,39,646 units in April, a 33.29 per cent year-on-year growth, making a strong start to the new fiscal with its small cars showing robust growth.
The company had sold a total of 1,79,791 units in the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki India said.
Domestic sales also reached an all-time high of 1,91,122 units in April compared to 1,42,053 units in the year-ago month.

Financial Services Secretary M Nagaraju on Friday said the High-Level Committee on Banking for Viksit Bharat announced in this year's Budget will look into public sector banks'balance sheet constraints, so that they can leverage their capital.
The government is expected to announce the terms of reference for the panel.

Bank credit growth slowed to 15 per cent in the fortnight ended April 15, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Wednesday.
According to the latest data, the pace of lending growth slowed down to 14.88 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the fortnight ended April 15, as compared to 15.96 per cent recorded in the preceding fortnight.
During the reporting period, overall credit contracted by 2.06 per cent or Rs 4.51 lakh crore.
Bank credit stood at Rs 214 lakh crore in the fortnight ended April 15, as compared to Rs 218 lakh crore during the preceding 15-day period ended March 31.
The total credit stood at Rs 186 lakh crore in the fortnight ended April 18 last year, the RBI data showed.
During the fortnight ended March 31, bank credit grew at the fastest pace in the last two fiscal years, as banks rushed to meet their balance sheet targets ahead of the financial year-end, resulting in a sharp increase in both loans and deposits.
